FATBOY SLIM – SOUTH AFRICA TOUR – COACHING FOR HOPE
It’s the late nineties. DJs are the new rock stars and Fatboy Slim’s unique musical blend of vaudeville and vodka has the sweat dripping from the ceiling of Brighton’s infamous Boutique. A grinning Fatboy Slim drops the needle on ‘Santa Cruz’, the record that had kick started the acclaimed Skint record label, and takes a bow before the crowd. The drumfest of the big beat revolution is in full swing and he is most definitely leading from the front.
Fast forward ten years and Fatboy Slim (aka Norman Cook) has successfully helped take dance music from the clubs, into the living room and to the top of the charts – earning him a unique place in the nation’s heart along the way. Across four acclaimed albums – ‘Better Living Through Chemistry’, ‘You’ve Come A Long Way Baby’, ‘Halfway Between The Gutter And The Stars’ and ‘Palookaville’. Recently Norman released his Greatest Hits.
To date Fatboy has sold over 8 million albums and his music has defined a genre, giving him the platform to become the worlds biggest DJ.
In 2003 he performed to 260,000 people at a free party on Brighton Beach, which led to the inception of the Big Beach Boutique DVD released on Southern Fried Records, which documented the now legendary party.
Subsequent parties have now been held on Beaches in Brazil, Northern Ireland and Australia, as well as incredible events on the banks of the Black Sea in Romania and Loch Ness in Scotland.
Norman touches down in South Africa this year to explore the idea of doing similar events over the next 3 years and will play 3 gigs during his weeklong stay.
Johannesburg – 2nd December Plettenberg Bay – 5th December Capetown – 7th December
He is also the official FIFA World Cup DJ and his management team are in talks about holding a series of events during the 2010 world cup.
Norman is a passionate patron of the Coaching For Hope charity that is bringing HIV / AIDS awareness programs through football coaching to South Africa.
From 3rd – 7th December Coaching For Hope is holding a training camp for 40 local football coaches.
Norman will be holding a press day on Tuesday 4th December .
